Kobl

Kobl is a thermal and cross-country launch above the village of Pfunds, high in Tyrol near the Austrian border with Switzerland and Italy, with a wide grass take-off at 2,121 m. It's run by the local Pfunds flying club, and access to launch is deliberately restricted — there's no public road up, only the club bus, which keeps the take-off uncrowded and well looked after. Wind alignment favours east through south-east, and the restricted access pays off: this is regarded locally as one of the better cross-country launches in the area, with genuine distance-flying terrain rather than just a sledge ride down. The large Greit landing field sits south-west of Pfunds, in the valley below. Plan around the bus schedule rather than driving yourself — there's no way to reach the launch on your own.

The grass launch faces east to south-east — that's the wind window this site is built around. The only way up is the club bus; there's no self-drive or hike-up option.

Access to the launch is by club bus only — no public road reaches the top, and the large Greit landing field lies south-west of Pfunds in the valley.
