Where it is

ThermalsCross-country

Lazid (Serfaus) is a northeast/east/southeast-facing mountain launch at about 2,314 m near the top station of the Lazid cable car above Serfaus, Tyrol — known for good thermal and cross-country flying. Take-off is flexible; you can launch from more or less anywhere along the top station area, all directions are easy, and a windsock on one of the cable-car poles helps read the wind, though it isn't visible from every launch spot. The site sits above a mid-station with a wide, easy landing meadow, which matters on days without strong thermals: if you don't have at least 300 m of height over that mid-station, plan to land there rather than pushing on toward Serfaus village — there's plenty of room, and it beats an unplanned outlanding lower down. Watch for cables around the mountain generally, and never fly here in foehn conditions — it's specifically flagged as dangerous at this site. Getting up is unusual for a paragliding launch: Serfaus runs an underground funicular from the village to the cable-car base station.

Launch & conditions

Take-off is flexible around the top station — all directions launch easily — but the windsock (on a cable-car pole) isn't visible from every spot, so check the wind carefully before committing.

Getting there & local rules

Serfaus's underground funicular gets you from the village to the cable-car base station, then the cable car up to launch — an unusual approach for a mountain site.

Local rules & hazards

Never fly here in foehn — it's specifically called out as dangerous. Watch for cables on the mountain, and on days without strong thermals, keep at least 300 m over the mid-station or plan to land in its meadows rather than pushing on toward Serfaus — there's ample landing space there.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Lazid (Serfaus), read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch.
