Where it is
Venet Startplatz 3, on the Krahberg/Venet, is rated one of the best thermal mountains in the region and a natural starting point for cross-country flights across the Tyrolean Oberland. The launch sits at about 2,163 m, oriented north through northeast to east, just east of the top station — and when the valley wind is strong, pilots can ridge-soar along the slope edge instead of relying on thermals alone. That range of options makes it a flexible mountain for a variety of wind days. Landing is at the southwestern edge of Zams, but it comes with a real warning worth taking seriously: the valley wind here can blow very strongly, so treat the landing approach with extra respect rather than assuming it will be as calm as the launch. For XC-minded pilots this is a genuinely strong option — just plan the landing with the valley wind in mind.
Local rules & hazards
The valley wind at the Zams landing area can blow very strongly — plan your landing approach with that in mind rather than expecting calm air.
