Where it is
Aasrücken is a German launch at about 521 m, flying in steady northerly wind, where every pilot needs a briefing from the site holder before flying. The launch and landing areas are closed entirely from 1 April through 31 July each year for species protection under German nature conservation law, and flying at any time only happens with the agreement of the landowners or tenants of the meadow. Access to both launch and landing is on foot only, and pilots need to be considerate of walkers and other people out enjoying the area. Launches are only permitted in steady wind from the north — stronger crosswind or turbulent conditions rule out a launch entirely. Throughout the flight, pilots must maintain the minimum safety heights above buildings, roads and power lines required by the flight operations regulations and European airspace rules.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Aasrücken, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Aasrücken with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
