Where it is
Auen–Eckweiler is a small local flying site in Germany at 380 m, working on south through south-west and west winds. Access is deliberately controlled: flying here requires prior registration before you can use the site — it isn't a walk-up-and-launch hill — and once you've cleared that, you leave the car at a car park by the barbecue area at the bottom and walk about 10 minutes up to the flying ground itself. That combination of registration and a short approach on foot is typical of the smaller, community-run sites that make up most of German local flying: no big infrastructure, but a set of simple rules that keep the site available at all. The Auen-Eckweiler landing field serves the launch.
Getting there & local rules
Park at the car park by the barbecue area at the bottom, then walk about 10 minutes up to the flying ground.
Local rules & hazards
Using the site requires prior registration/sign-up — this isn't a site you can simply turn up and fly.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Auen – Eckweiler, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Auen – Eckweiler with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
