Where it is
Flying at Auergang is currently prohibited by official order: since 6 October 2025, the site has been closed to all flight operations because it sits inside an African Swine Fever (ASP) control zone in Germany's Hochsauerland district, and visitors there are also required to stay on marked paths. No end date has been announced, so check current status before planning a visit. When operations are running normally, this is a north/northeast-facing launch at about 695 m. Guest pilots need registration and a briefing before their first flight, and flying is coordinated closely with a nearby glider airfield: pilots give the sailplane circuit pattern a wide berth, radio the airfield at the start and end of a flying day, and use its frequency to avoid conflicts in the air. The landing corridor is fixed and must be followed exactly — no launching or landing outside it — and pilots are asked to touch down in the eastern part of the field to stay well clear of a protected wetland to the west.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Auergang, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Auergang with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
