Where it is
Hömberg is a north-facing launch in the Sauerland near Meschede, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, at about 514 m. Flying here is only allowed in the company of a local club member, and pilots need to register in advance. A row of trees sits in front of Landing Site 2, so it has to be approached with plenty of height to spare, and at least two wind indicators are required at launch — one low, one high — because that same tree row can make the wind hard to read. The site itself is kept deliberately undeveloped: no grading or landscaping, no ramps, shelters, sheds or caravans, no fixed benches or fire pits, and no parking spaces may be built at launch or landing. Powered paragliders aren't allowed, and pilots are asked to carpool and park near the village rather than drive individually to the site. Competitions, open days or anything that draws a crowd beyond normal flying isn't permitted, and the site holder reports the year's flying activity to the nature authority every December.
Launch & conditions
At least two wind direction indicators are required at launch — one in the lower area, one in the upper — because the tree row in front of the landing field can make the wind hard to read from below.
Getting there & local rules
Vehicle traffic is kept to a minimum — carpool when flying with others, and park away from the site, near the village, rather than driving up individually.
Local rules & hazards
Flying here is only allowed in the company of a local club member, with advance registration required. Landing Site 2 sits behind a row of trees that has to be cleared with plenty of height, and at least two wind indicators — one low on the launch, one high — are needed because that tree row can make the wind hard to read. The site is kept deliberately undeveloped, with no ramps, shelters, fixed structures or parking areas allowed, and powered paragliders aren't permitted.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Hömberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Hömberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
