Where it is
Donnersberg is a thermally strong flying mountain with two separate gap launches: one facing east to northeast (Bärenloch) and this one, Moltkefelsen, facing southeast, at about 540 m. Both are demanding launches, and Moltkefelsen is the newer of the two — it was only approved for flying in 2007. Because it's a forest-gap launch, solid wing control is essential and conditions have to be genuinely right before you commit; this isn't a site to fly on marginal days. The operating group marks a launch-abort line in the terrain — if you haven't lifted off by that point, you abort the launch. Several nearby nature and landscape protection areas around the mountain must not be overflown, except above 200 m over the ground. Access to the launch is on foot only; driving up is not permitted except for rescue operations, and every pilot needs a safety briefing on the site's specific hazards before flying here.
Launch & conditions
Southeast-facing forest-gap launch at about 540 m, approved for flying since 2007. Demanding: only launch when conditions genuinely support a safe southeast-wind take-off, and only with solid wing control. The operating group marks a launch-abort line — if you haven't lifted off by it, abort.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Donnersberg Moltkefelsen, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Donnersberg Moltkefelsen with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
