Where it is

winchFlatland XC

Finkenberg Schlepp is a flatland winch-tow site at about 320 m, flyable in southeast or northwest wind, set up for tow launches rather than a hill or mountain start. The rules here are built around staying clear of the surrounding forest: pilots keep flights over the open tow field and its immediate surroundings, and only venture over the trees on a cross-country flight, and then only at least 300 m above the ground. Every winch tow has to be logged in a tow book kept on site. Pilots keep at least 50 m of horizontal and vertical clearance both from the nearby roads and from a power line running parallel to the tow field. If crosswind brings a real risk of turbulence, towing is stopped for the day rather than pushed through. A no-nonsense, all-wind flatland built for winch training and cross-country practice rather than scenic mountain flying.

Local rules & hazards

Stay over the open tow field and its surroundings — only cross the forest on a cross-country flight, and then no lower than 300 m above the ground. Keep at least 50 m of horizontal and vertical clearance from the nearby roads and from a power line running parallel to the field. Towing stops if crosswind brings a real turbulence risk.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Finkenberg Schlepp, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Finkenberg Schlepp with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
