Where it is

Griet is a north/northeast-facing launch in Baden-Württemberg where flying starts only after a site briefing from the local club, and never at all if there's any danger to third parties. Every pilot sets a launch-abort line before taking off: if they're not airborne by that point, the launch is aborted rather than pushed through. Before committing, pilots also have to confirm the track crossing the lower slope is clear of farm traffic. Crosswind, tailwind, or any risk of turbulence in the forest clearing is a hard stop — flying doesn't start under those conditions. A power line runs northwest of the landing field and needs a real safety margin at all times. All pilots need real hill-landing experience to fly here, hang glider pilots especially.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Griet, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Griet with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
