Where it is

Hainberg is a southeast/south-facing site flown only in the company of a club member — visiting pilots register with their phone number the day before by email. The site itself is kept deliberately minimal: no changes to the ground at launch or landing, no ramps, shelters, sheds, caravans or fixed furniture of any kind, and no barbecue or fire pits either. Parking is limited strictly to the spots named in the site's permit, with no new car spaces created, and vehicle traffic tied to flying is kept to the bare minimum needed — cars never drive onto the landing field itself. Motorised flying equipment isn't used here, and nothing beyond normal day-to-day flying is allowed: no competitions, open days or anything else that would draw a crowd. Keeping the launch clear of obstacles is an ongoing job too, from cutting back encroaching trees and shrubs to clearing any woodpile that builds up nearby.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Hainberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Hainberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
