Where it is
Holzer Berg is a winch-tow flying site in Lower Saxony, Germany, at around 277 m, working southwest wind. The site sits next to the Wernershöhe nature reserve, and that boundary comes with a hard rule: launching and landing inside the protected area is banned outright under the reserve's own regulations, with the one exception being a genuine emergency landing. Because the rules are specific to this site, any pilot flying here for the first time as a guest has to get a briefing on the requirements before taking to the air rather than just showing up and flying. It's a straightforward southwest-facing winch field otherwise, but the nature-reserve boundary is the detail that defines where you can actually launch and land — worth confirming on the ground rather than guessing from a map.
Local rules & hazards
Launching and landing inside the adjacent Wernershöhe nature reserve is banned under the reserve's regulations, except for genuine emergency landings; guest pilots need a briefing on the site's requirements before their first flight.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Holzer Berg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Holzer Berg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
