Where it is
Hündle is a mountain launch in the Allgäu, southern Germany, at 1,035 m, flown mainly on north, west or northwest wind. The site sits right next to a cable car, and one of its two launches actually requires flying straight over the cable-car line on the way out — a detail that shapes almost every rule here. Training days run with an instructor stationed at both launch and landing, and every student needs reliable radio contact with their instructor throughout. Anyone launching from the upper takeoff has to check the departure path is clear of people first, and the mandatory safety margin around the cable car itself — both sideways and vertically — is treated as a hard line rather than a suggestion. The landing field is boxed in by a federal road to the north, a tree line to the east and a power line along its southern edge, so the approach pattern is deliberately kept to the south side of the field, well clear of all three.
Launch & conditions
Launch 1 requires flying directly over the cable car line — keep a strict vertical and horizontal safety margin from it on departure. Works on north, west or northwest wind.
Local rules & hazards
Training operations run with an instructor at both launch and landing, and students need reliable radio contact throughout. Before launching above the cable car, check the takeoff and departure path is clear of people. The landing field is bordered by a federal road to the north, a tree line to the east and a power line along the south edge — keep a safe distance from all three, and fly the landing pattern south of the field.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Hündle, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Hündle with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
