Where it is

Kronenberg welcomes guest pilots, on a launch parcel that's registered as a protected biotope in Rhineland-Palatinate's habitat catalogue, so flying here comes with real environmental care built in. The field is mown just once, in early October, with the cuttings removed, and pilots are asked to fly with maximum distance from the ground wherever possible — especially during the April–July breeding season, when ground, shrub and hedge-nesting birds use the site and its neighbouring woodland. Neighbouring registered habitats shouldn't be overflown at all; pilots are steered to use the airspace over the adjoining vineyards instead. Basic paragliding instruction does happen here, but only for students who already have solid flight experience and can hold a controlled turn, with a secure radio link to an instructor tracking every metre of the flight. Hang gliders need an unrestricted pilot's licence given the landing field's demands, and tandem hang-glider flights aren't permitted at all. The landing pattern must stay at least 50 m from the L236 road, ideally kept to the slope side.

Launch & conditions

The launch area is kept as small as possible and sits on a protected biotope parcel — fly with maximum distance from the ground, especially during the April–July bird breeding season. Basic paragliding instruction is allowed only for students with solid flight experience who can already hold a controlled turn.

Local rules & hazards

The launch parcel and neighbouring woodland are registered protected biotopes in Rhineland-Palatinate's habitat catalogue — avoid disturbing ground, shrub and hedge-nesting birds, especially in the April–July breeding season, and fly over the adjoining vineyards rather than the neighbouring registered habitats. Hang gliders need an unrestricted pilot's licence given the landing field's demands, and tandem hang-glider flights aren't permitted.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Kronenberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Kronenberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
