Where it is

Nassauer Berg is a steep, licensed-pilots-only launch above the Lahn valley in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, at about 268 m, flying north and northwest wind. A cross-country rating (B-license) is required to fly here — tandem and training flights aren't permitted at all — and the launch is steep enough that a reverse launch is recommended. Crosswind brings lee rotors right at the launch, and even stronger west wind is a no-go, since the whole area sits in the lee of the nearby Burgberg even when the wind at launch itself looks fine. Neither the launch nor the landing field is reachable by car; park down at the swimming pool or at the hiking lot near the B260 and walk the rest. The landing field is bordered by bushes toward the Lahn river and by the valley bike path along one side, so cyclists and walkers must never be blocked — it also narrows sharply at its western end, so aim to land as far east as possible.

Getting there & local rules

Neither launch nor landing is reachable by car — park down at the swimming pool or the hiking lot near the B260, and walk the rest of the way.

Local rules & hazards

A cross-country rating (B-license) is required to fly here, and tandem and training flights aren't permitted at all. Crosswind brings lee rotors right at the launch, and stronger west wind is a no-go regardless of how it looks at launch, since the whole area sits in the lee of the nearby Burgberg. The landing field narrows sharply at its western end — aim to land as far east as possible — and is bordered by the Lahn valley bike path, so cyclists and walkers must never be blocked.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Nassauer Berg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Nassauer Berg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
