Ober – Ostern

Ober-Ostern is a southeast-facing training slope in Germany for both paragliding and hang-gliding students, at 352 m. Access is by arrangement only — flying here depends on getting in touch with the landholder first, though short-notice requests are said to be welcome rather than a problem. The approach is marked by a wayside chapel, a useful landmark if you're navigating there for the first time. One safety rule specific to hang gliders: basic training flights are restricted to the lower half of the slope, because the landing area falls away sharply to the side higher up — a real hazard for a student still learning to judge a landing approach. Being a genuine training hill rather than a mountain launch, Ober-Ostern is built around short, manageable flights rather than distance or altitude.
