Scheffau

Scheffau is a private paragliding site in the Berchtesgadener Land region of Bavaria, Germany, launching from 720 m and facing east. This isn't a site to just show up at: flying is only permitted after arranging it with the local flying school that runs the ground, and the site description is explicit that it is not a public site — turning up without prior contact isn't an option here the way it might be at an open hill. Once arranged, pilots still need to respect a fixed safety margin on the way in: both a horizontal and a vertical distance of 50 m from the local road that runs past the landing area must be maintained on every approach, which leaves a real but narrow safety buffer given how close the road sits. Training flights are only carried out when the weather is genuinely suitable for instruction, not simply flyable in a general sense. Wind from the east is what the launch is set up for, and the dedicated Scheffau landing field gives students and visiting pilots a clear target once the road clearance has been respected.
