Schleppgelände Kella

Schleppgelände Kella is a winch-tow site for both hang gliders and paragliders, set on flat ground north of the village of Kella in central Germany. Rather than launching off a hill, pilots here get towed into the air along lines running northeast or southwest, which makes it a reliable option when the wind is light or blowing from a direction no local hill can use. The field pulls double duty: it's also the designated landing area for the nearby Kella-Berg flying site, so pilots who fly that hill will already know this stretch of ground from the opposite direction. Being flatland rather than mountain terrain, it's a good fit for winch-launch training, tow currency and general flatland flying rather than thermic cross-country days. A protected area is mapped just next to the field — a planned nature reserve — and pilots need to stay clear of it at low altitude, though passing well above it at height is fine.
