Where it is
Berliner Heide is a flatland paragliding site in Germany, a shared glider airfield used for mixed flying operations including winch-towed paragliding. The field flies best in northeast or southwest wind. The surface is sandy, kept short-mown and free of potholes, and it's known locally for being thermally active despite the flat setting — useful for staying current with winch launches even without a mountain nearby. The airfield is run by a local flying club and comes with real infrastructure for visiting pilots: a hangar for the winch, workshops, toilets, power, an indoor lounge, and even overnight or camping options with a kitchen and shower on site. That combination makes it a practical base for a full day or a multi-day stay rather than a quick drop-in launch. No separate landing field is on record, so pilots land back on the same flatland area they launched from. As at any shared airfield, coordinate with whoever is running operations that day before towing up.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Segelflugplatz "Berliner Heide", read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Segelflugplatz "Berliner Heide" with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
