Where it is

winchFlatland XC

Sportplatz Alpenrod is a German winch and flatland paragliding site at about 260 m, with launches oriented north — a low-altitude field built for repeated tow flights rather than mountain descents. Airspace around it is genuinely constrained: the 'Nisteraue' nature reserve nearby may not be overflown at all, and pilots must stay at least 200 m clear of its boundary horizontally, even without crossing in. There's also a seasonal rule tied to the breeding season, 15 April through 15 August each year: no departures to the north are allowed during that window, and any flight over the north-facing slope must stay above a minimum of 300 m above ground. None of this rules out flying the site — it just means the north-facing option is off the table for four months a year, and the reserve boundary needs real margin the rest of the time.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Sportplatz Alpenrod, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Sportplatz Alpenrod with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
