Where it is
Stöckerkopf is a north/northeast/east-facing launch above Baiersbronn in the northern Black Forest, at 740 m, with a wide view down over the town. The take-off often picks up a south-wind cross-component, so pilots should watch for lee and rotor. Unauthorised vehicles driving up to the launch are fined, and anyone walking up is asked to keep off the meadows; a weekend chairlift also runs up to the launch, Saturdays 14:00–18:00 and Sundays/holidays 10:00–18:00 in good weather. There are effectively two launches: the north one runs down the old ski piste, while the east launch is comparatively short. Landing approaches must keep the legally required distance from the Sankenbachstrasse, flying stops if turbulence risk builds in the launch lane, and pilots keep 20 m of lateral clearance from both the tall forest and a power line at the site's western edge. Basic training is confined to the designated Stöckerkopf training meadows (plots 2327/2328), paragliders only, staying 50 m clear of the Stockerweg bounding the practice area to the north.
Launch & conditions
Take-off often gets a south-wind cross-component — watch for lee and rotor. Two launches: the north one down the old ski piste, the east one comparatively short. Getting there & local rules
Use the large car park about 150 m before the landing field/chairlift; pack up your wing at the meadow edge below the road near the pizzeria — the landing field itself sits right of the crossing path below it.
Local rules & hazards
Landing approaches must keep the legally required distance from the Sankenbachstrasse, and flying stops if turbulence risk builds in the launch lane. Pilots keep 20 m of lateral clearance from the tall forest and a power line at the site's western edge. Basic training stays within the designated training meadows (paragliders only), 50 m clear of the bordering Stockerweg. The landing field can be turbulent — watch for the chairlift and trees around it.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Stöckerkopf Startplatz, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Stöckerkopf Startplatz with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
