Übungshang Lombach

Übungshang Lombach is a training slope near Baiersbronn in the Black Forest, launching on north and northwest winds from around 660 m, and flying here only happens in coordination with the local flight school — this is a practice hill for students, not a free-fly site. A power line runs close to the landing area, about 30–40 m away, and every pilot gets a specific briefing on it before flying. Students flying from the upper part of the slope must already have solid control of turning flight; anyone who hasn't mastered that yet is restricted to launch practice on the lower slope only, and only in weather conditions the instructor judges suitable for a student. The instructor stays in the landing area throughout, keeps reliable radio contact with each student, and backs that up with visible signal paddles to show the flying direction. Two small wet patches on the practice field are mapped as protected fen habitat and must not be disturbed — students are briefed to walk around them, not through them, on the way back up from landing.
