Where it is

winchFlatland XC

Walkertshofen Ost is a winch-launch flatland site in Bavaria, flying on easterly or westerly winds from around 540 m. Towing is tightly bounded by both wind and geometry: the north-wind component during a tow can't exceed 2 m/sec, and the tow-line parachute has to sink at around 5 m/sec, so that a snapped line comes down fast enough to stay clear of the road running along the south side of the strip — pilots also keep at least 50 m back from that road at all times. Launching, landing and setting up the winch all keep a minimum 30 m clearance from the forest edges bordering the site to the north and east, and low flying over the forest or its edge is avoided altogether. Flying is restricted to daylight hours between 9:00 and 17:00, with nothing permitted at dusk or after dark. No structures, containers or caravans may be set up on site, and overnight stays in vehicles or tents aren't allowed. Protected land-consolidation areas bordering the tow route to the north and south may not be entered, mown, mulched, or used to store material or machinery.
