Where it is
Zundelberg was built by the Spaichingen hang-gliding club in 1998, cut into a forest corridor that's only reachable by the club's own shuttle bus. Paragliders can launch here too, but only pilots holding a B-licence who've been briefed by the site operator — this isn't a beginner site, and only pilots with a solid, reliable launch technique, confident canopy control and real flight experience are allowed to fly. Paraglider launches need a clean, turbulence-free headwind of at least 12–15 km/h; any crosswind is banned outright, since the forest corridor concentrates real turbulence risk in that case. A second person should be on site during flying in case help is needed — a tree landing, for instance — and wings need a minimum glide ratio of 6 to guarantee a safe departure from the corridor. Power lines in the valley below and a high-voltage line before the landing field both need at least 50 m of clearance.
Launch & conditions
Only pilots with a reliable launch technique, confident canopy control and real flight experience may fly here, and paraglider launches need a clean, turbulence-free headwind of at least 12–15 km/h — any crosswind is banned outright due to the corridor's turbulence risk. Wings need a minimum glide ratio of 6.
Getting there & local rules
Only reachable by the club's own shuttle bus, or a vehicle belonging to the club or a member (limited to five trips a day, 11:00–18:00, with a visible forestry permit). Unpaved tracks and the launch area itself may not be driven — park at the Zundelbergsteige or Zundelberghüttenweg.
Local rules & hazards
This is an experienced-pilots' site: only holders of an unrestricted licence with solid technique and real flight experience may launch, and a second person should be present during flying in case help is needed. Power lines in the valley below, and a high-voltage line before the landing field, both need at least 50 m of clearance, and biotope structures at the launch and landing areas must not be disturbed.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Zundelberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Zundelberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
