Where it is
Hatcher's Pass, north of Palmer in Alaska's Talkeetna Mountains, has a strong local reputation — when thermals are working, a capable pilot can go a genuinely long way, with wide-open 360° options and views out to Denali and the Chugach range. It's remote enough that you might not see another pilot in the air on a given day; that's normal here, not a sign the conditions are off — if it looks good, it usually is. There are multiple potential launches across the surrounding mountains, most reachable with about a 30-minute hike, but the easiest and most popular is Summit Lake, drivable right to takeoff and best flown in the afternoon. A minimum P2 (novice) paragliding rating applies. The access road through Hatcher's Pass State Park is a rough dirt track open only from June through the end of September; via the longer approach off the Parks Highway, expect more unpaved road and real wildlife along the way — moose, bears, beaver. Alaska mountain weather is genuinely unpredictable here, so check current conditions before committing to the drive up.

Getting there & local rules
From Anchorage, head north toward Palmer and continue about 3 miles toward Glennallen/Tok; Hatcher's Pass State Park is signposted off Fishhook Road. The access road into the park is a rough dirt track open only from June through the end of September; it can also be reached via the Parks Highway with a longer unpaved stretch. Watch for moose, bears and beaver along the way.
Local rules & hazards
Alaska mountain weather here is genuinely unpredictable — check current conditions before heading up rather than relying on the forecast alone. A minimum P2 (novice) paragliding rating is expected for this site.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Hatcher's Pass, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Hatcher's Pass with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
