Season

Spring and autumn usually bring the best cross-country; winter is more stable and good for building airtime, and most guides do not run standard weeks in July and August because thermals are too strong. In our data, 75% to 90% of middays from November to March were dry at Levante.

Flying

Levante launches at about 1,020 m with its main landing near Pepe's Bar at about 390 m, so roughly 600 m of height. Poniente, at about 970 m, works in the afternoon and evening when Levante stops. El Bosque and Montellano are nearby alternatives.

Practical facts

Launches
Levante (east to south) and Poniente (south-west to north-west) on the Sierra de Líjar; the last part of the road is unpaved but fine for a normal car.[1]
Landing
Levante landing near Pepe's Bar, about 390 m.[1]
Schools
Several companies in town offer instruction and guiding.[1]

Hazards

  • Poniente's landing is not the easiest: trees, a valley and power lines. Check the windsock and look around before you launch.[1]
  • Summer thermals are strong; most guided weeks avoid July and August.[3]
