Where it is

ThermalswinchFlatland XC

Laishi is a flatland thermal and winch-towing site in Formosa province, northern Argentina, flyable in wind from northeast through east, southeast or south. Launching here is by tow rather than a hill or ridge, with an east-southeast tow line orientation, which suits the flat terrain of the area. There's an aerodrome and airport close by to the northeast, so pilots need to stay aware of that airspace while flying. Access is via National Route 11, coming from Resistencia to the north or Formosa city to the south, then Provincial Route 1 heading west to reach the site. Landing is simply in the surrounding fields, with plenty of open flat ground to choose from. It's a straightforward, accessible flatland site for thermal flying, with the nearby airport traffic the main thing to keep in mind.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Laishi, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Laishi with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
