Where it is

Markbachjoch Startplatz 3 sits higher up the same beginner-friendly Wildschönau terrain, at about 1,704 m facing north to northeast — the whole valley here is sheltered from the Inntal valley wind, which is part of why it has a reputation as good ground for beginners and pleasure pilots alike. Unlike the lower training launch nearby, this one takes some effort to reach: plan on close to an hour's walk up to the launch point at Rosskopf. The reward is a genuinely large launch meadow near a staffed mountain hut with excellent infrastructure. Landing is smaller and more specific here — a compact field right next to the valley station, rather than the large training meadow used elsewhere in the area — so it pays to know the approach before committing to it, even on an otherwise relaxed flying day in Wildschönau.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Markbachjoch Startplatz 3, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch.
