Capuava Hill in Pirapora do Bom Jesus is the closest paragliding site to São Paulo, and it shows — more than 50 active pilots fly here regularly, and conditions support cross-country and soaring flights through most of the year. The grassy summit take-off works from several directions, including northeast, south and southwest, though a north wind is a firm no-go here: it creates dangerous turbulence right at launch. Wind on this hill shifts quickly and can turn rough, so checking in with local pilots before flying is standard practice — they're used to helping visiting pilots read the mountain and know the safest configuration for the day. Landing is straightforward on the south and southeast side, a large open area with plenty of room. There's also a smaller landing field to the northeast, about 600 m from launch with easy car access, though a north wind can create a gap effect off the mountain that makes reaching either landing zone harder than usual. Getting there from São Paulo means about 30 km on the Castelo Branco highway toward Santana de Parnaíba, then a signed dirt road turnoff marked 'Voo Livre'.

Launch & conditions

The grassy summit take-off works from several directions — northeast, south, southwest — but never launch in a north wind, which creates dangerous turbulence right at the top.
