Where it is

ThermalsSoaringHike & fly

Bogiàn is a south/southwest-facing launch above Roveredo, in the Italian-speaking Grigioni region of Switzerland, at about 685 m — a roughly 35–40 minute hike from the road to the historic Torre di Bogiàn launch. The terrain around launch is private property, so pilots are asked to treat it with care and respect. The site is best known for evening dynamic-soaring flights, sometimes with the sunset still visible from the air, typically launching between 16:30 and 18:00 in spring and summer with south/southwest wind of roughly 15–25 km/h. There's a known hazard right at launch: a cantilevered cable on the left side, easy to notice on foot since you have to walk past it, but harder to spot from the air — stay well clear of that side when flying low. Airspace is shared with San Vittore heliport 2.5 km away, with a 600 m AGL ceiling nearby. The main landing is at Grono, with an alternative near the Paltàn chapel once the heliport closes for the day.

Launch & conditions

Launch is a 35–40 minute hike from the road, on private land, best flown in the evening (roughly 16:30–18:00) in spring/summer with south or southwest wind around 15–25 km/h.

Getting there & local rules

The take-off area is private property — treat it with care and stay on the path in. Airspace nearby is shared with San Vittore heliport (2.5 km away, 600 m AGL ceiling).

Local rules & hazards

There's a cantilevered cable on the left side of launch — easy to see on foot since the path passes it, much harder to spot from the air, so avoid flying low over that side. The main landing is at Grono; once San Vittore heliport closes for the day, an alternative landing near the Paltàn chapel is used instead.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Bogiàn, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Bogiàn with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
