Where it is
Altos Las Tres Cruces sits at 2,730 m above Soacha, just southwest of Bogotá in Colombia. This is a P2 site with a wide launch that also permits top-landings, working on SW, W and NW winds. Access is under delicate community relations — the site belongs to local pilots and visitors flying without contacting them risk causing problems with the surrounding residents. Landings are on flat fields near the ruins below the mountain and along the road; some fields flood and turn muddy, so the closer-to-road options are the safer bet. New construction in the area means the landing setup shifts over time — get a briefing before your first flight. You fly at your own risk here.
Launch & conditions
The launch is described locally as excellent, with top-landing possible in the right conditions. About 300 m to the left of take-off there is a rotor zone — either stay well clear or cross it with plenty of altitude to prevent a collapse.
Getting there & local rules
You must contact a local pilot before travelling. Access is by 4×4 (or a strong 2WD) on a 25-minute drive to the top. Locals will confirm whether conditions are workable or the winds are too strong. Fly at your own risk.
Local rules & hazards
The site is in Class G airspace. It's a P2-rated site and belongs to the local pilot community — pilots visiting without contacting a local risk conflicts with residents around the take-off and landing. Do not fly if winds exceed about 22 km/h (15 mph). Stay clear of the rotor zone 300 m to the left of launch, or cross it with high altitude.
