Bastenberg

Bastenberg launches toward the northwest at 198 m in Germany, beside the Bastenberg landing field. The area is a bird protection zone: flying is not allowed at all in March and April during the bird breeding season, and the site only opens for the flying season from 1 May. Wind from the north or west makes the launch turbulent and can leave the glide angle uncomfortably tight, so those directions call for extra caution. Access is restricted to members of the local hang-gliding and paragliding club, with no more than three people using the site for flying purposes at any one time. Visiting pilots need both a briefing and prior registration before flying, and tandem flights additionally require approval from the club's board beforehand. Two nearby nature reserves, Kalkmagerrasen bei Ottbergen und Bruchhausen and Nethe, carry an overflight ban below 300 m above ground, so plan your line to respect that limit.
