Where it is
Blättersberg is a hillside launch in the Pfalz (Palatinate), above the village of Weyher, at 550 m, catching southeast wind through to south and southwest. The launch is a steep couloir cut through the forest facing south, and it gets genuinely tricky the moment crosswind or thermic activity enters the picture — this is not a forgiving takeoff. The landing options are just as demanding as the launch, which is why the site holder requires every pilot to hold at least the restricted pilot's license and forbids training flights outright. Before a first flight, every pilot needs a personal briefing from the site holder or someone they've designated, covering the terrain's specific hazards and just how much experience the launch and landing genuinely require. Reaching the site means walking up from Weyher — there's no drive-up option. The flying community here also takes bird protection seriously: disturbing any bird species is explicitly off-limits, and pilots are expected to keep the whole operation as low-impact as possible.
Launch & conditions
Steep, south-facing couloir launch; catches southeast, south or southwest wind. Genuinely tricky in crosswind or thermic conditions — not a forgiving takeoff. Requires at least the restricted pilot's license; training flights are not permitted.

Reached on foot from Weyher; there's no drive-up option.
Local rules & hazards
Every pilot needs a personal briefing from the site holder before their first flight, covering the terrain's hazards and the experience the demanding launch and landing genuinely require. Disturbing any bird species is prohibited, and flight operations should stay as low-impact on nature as possible.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Blättersberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Blättersberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
