winchFlatland XC

Dettelbach – Neuses is a winch-launch flatland site in the Main valley near Würzburg, Bavaria, at 270 m, flown on a north wind. The rules here are unusually seasonal and precise: flying stops entirely every year from December through February, and on the days it does run, operations must wrap up an hour before sunset. Crossing the Main valley itself requires staying at least 300 m above ground for bird-protection reasons, and step-towing isn't permitted at all. Outlanding choices matter as much as the flying — pilots are expected to steer clear of several ecologically sensitive strips nearby, including the Dettelbachzug ridge to the east, the hedge-lined valley route toward Bibergau, and any ground close to hedgerows, field groves or nutrient-poor grassland. Landing is banned outright inside two protected nature reserves along the river, the Rechtes Mainufer near Sommerach and the Mainaue between Sommerach and Köhler. Parking is restricted to designated areas, and pilots are expected to take their rubbish with them.
