Where it is
Eppenhain is a launch at about 422 m facing southwest, where flying only happens by prior arrangement with the site holder. Training flights are allowed here, but only for students who have already mastered turning flight — this isn't a first-lesson site. Flight operations can only start once the meadow has had its first hay cut of the season, and flying is banned outright between 1 April and 30 June each year unless that first cut already happened inside that window. Pilots need to stay well clear of a power line that runs below the landing area, and everyone flying here should be aware of the nearby Frankfurt Airport airspace. To limit the impact on the meadows, pilots are asked to reach the launch and landing areas mainly via the existing paths rather than cutting across open grass. There's a second landing field at the site, but it's reserved strictly for emergencies, not everyday use.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Eppenhain, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Eppenhain with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
