Where it is

Gänsberg is a technically demanding paragliding site in Germany, sitting at around 390 m with best conditions on a southwest to west wind. The launch is a narrow ramp cut through trees, and the landing field below is tight as well, so this is not a spot for a first solo outing — a proper briefing from the site holder before flying is required, not optional. The whole area lies inside a bird protection zone, and during the breeding season from 1 April to 30 August flying is only permitted between 9:00 and 17:00. Pilots need at least a light headwind component of roughly 10 km/h to launch safely off the ramp; side-wind and tailwind starts are not allowed here, and training flights are also off the table. Treat Gänsberg as a site for pilots who already have ramp-launch experience and the discipline to check in with the site holder first.

Launch & conditions

The launch is a narrow ramp cut through the trees — technical and unforgiving compared to an open ridge take-off.

Local rules & hazards

During the bird breeding season, 1 April to 30 August, flying is restricted to 9:00–17:00. Starts need a minimum headwind component of about 10 km/h, with side- and tailwind launches banned outright, and training flights are not permitted — every pilot needs a site-holder briefing on the local restrictions before flying.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Gänsberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Gänsberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
