Where it is
Obergrainet is a launch near the Dreiländereck border area in the Bavarian Forest, workable in wind from south through west, at around 940 m. It's a genuinely demanding takeoff: the terrain is flat rather than sloped, and tall trees line the end of the meadow, so a clean launch technique matters more here than at a typical hill site — though there is enough room to abort a paraglider launch if needed. East wind brings lee turbulence off those same trees, so it's worth avoiding. The ramp itself faces southwest and is built for hang gliders; paragliders launch to the right (west) of the ramp, and pilots are asked to keep to the left (east) side of the marked stone boundary when launching. Down at the landing field, gear gets packed up at the edge of the field path, and any vehicle using that path should move slowly.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Obergrainet, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Obergrainet with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
