Where it is
Rossnacken is a west to northwest-facing launch at about 580 m, run under a site-holder agreement rather than open access — anyone flying here needs to coordinate with the site holder first and get briefed on the terrain. The forest just ahead of the takeoff creates real lee effects, so wind indicators are placed to the side, below the launch and facing the trees, specifically so pilots can spot turbulence forming below the start before committing to launch. The deciduous woodland below the takeoff is protected and must stay in place through at least 2027, and no structures, ramps or ground modifications are allowed at the launch itself. Vehicles are restricted to paved forest roads under forestry rules — no driving or parking off-track. The main landing is a meadow near the sports field, with additional landing options nearby at Rinsenberg and Dolberg.
Launch & conditions
West to northwest-facing launch at about 580 m; the forest just ahead creates lee effects, and wind indicators are set out below and to the side of the launch specifically to reveal turbulence before you commit to launching.
Getting there & local rules
Flying here requires coordinating with the site holder and getting briefed first — this isn't an open, walk-up launch. Vehicles stay on paved forest roads only; no off-track driving or parking.
Local rules & hazards
Watch for lee-side turbulence from the forest ahead of the launch — that's exactly what the wind indicators below the start are there to show. The woodland below the takeoff is protected through at least 2027, and no structures, ramps or ground changes are permitted at the launch.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Rossnacken, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Rossnacken with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
