Wallberg Startplatz Hintermaurer Alm

Hintermaurer Alm is the alternate Wallberg launch above the Tegernsee, used above the upper cable-car station when the wind swings west to southwest and the main Kircherl launch further down isn't working. It sits a little higher, at around 1,646 m, and takes a wider spread of directions — north, west, northwest and southwest. The catch is a seasonal closure: from 15 May to 15 September, the Alm launch shuts at 13:00 each day because the afternoon valley wind sets up dangerous lee rotors here. Outside that window it shares the same mountain, and the same appeal — the Wallberg is a well-known cross-country starting point, with flights toward Kössen and, in north wind, over the Blauberge to the Achensee and into the Zillertal for pilots with enough base height. Landing is north of the Wallbergstraße road, where flying low risks hitting a parked or moving car, and golden eagles nesting nearby mean their nest areas are avoided. A day permit purchased at the cable-car station covers upkeep.
