Where it is

ThermalsSoaringCross-countryHike & flyFlatland XC

Alcocebre is a thermal, soaring, cross-country, hike and flatland site at 334 m in Castellón, Spain, working nicely on sea-breeze days with wind from the east through south to west. Take-off is right off the road, just before reaching the hermitage. Getting there by car means driving up to the San Benet hermitage via the El Pinar development. One real hazard to know about: power lines sit below take-off, and they can be in the way if you fly out low after scratching the ridge for lift — stay high enough to clear them. Landing options are flexible: down in the valley below, or right on the beach. With reliable sea-breeze soaring and a choice of landing spots including a beach option, Alcocebre is a pleasant coastal site for pilots who respect the power-line hazard near launch.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Alcocebre, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch.
