Where it is

ThermalsSoaring

Lanzarote – Arrieta is a large ridge soaring and thermal site on the island's northeast coast, near the town of Arrieta, with launch at 181 m and wind working from north through east. The ridge is big enough to host many hang gliders at once, and paragliders have a backup plan when the wind builds too strong at the main takeoff: a few alternative launches sit lower down the same ridge. Getting to launch means parking near the road from Mala and walking across a dam — a route that only stays open if pilots close the gates behind them after crossing. Landing options are flexible: the beach near Arrieta, the hang-glider landing zone right in front of takeoff, or a top-landing back at launch; paragliders also have the option of landing at the car park on the opposite side of the dam.

Launch & conditions

This is a large ridge with room for many hang gliders, working wind from north through east. When it's too strong at the main takeoff, paragliders can use a few alternative launches lower on the ridge.

Getting there & local rules

Park near the road from Mala and walk across the dam to reach takeoff — close the gates behind you after crossing, or the access route won't stay open for others.
