Where it is
Matalascañas is a low coastal soaring site on Spain's Atlantic coast in Huelva province, right beside the shoreline dunes near Camping Matalascañas. Launch is a modest 20 m hill above the beach, and the site only works flying west — heading east puts you over crowded beach areas and, more seriously, into Doñana National Park's restricted airspace. With a southwest wind of about 15 to 30 km/h, pilots can ridge-soar roughly 15 km along the coast toward the town of Mazagón. The whole shoreline between Matalascañas and Mazagón is a protected wildlife area, so the flying etiquette here matters as much as the flying itself: paramotors are not welcome (paragliders only), and pilots are asked not to disturb people on the beach, which is a real concern in summer but rarely an issue outside the season.
Launch & conditions
Launch is a low, roughly 15 m dune above the shoreline beside Camping Matalascañas. Fly west only — heading east takes you over crowded beach areas and toward restricted airspace. A southwest wind of 15–30 km/h opens up a ridge-soaring run of about 15 km toward Mazagón.
Local rules & hazards
Fly only along the shoreline and to the west — heading east crosses into Doñana National Park, a restricted flying zone from ground level up to 6,000 ft. Paramotors are not permitted here, paragliders only, and the beach and shoreline are a protected wildlife area, so keep clear of people on the sand, especially in summer.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Matalascanas, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Matalascanas with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
