Brezons

Brezons is regarded as a genuinely good thermal and cross-country site in France's Cantal region, with a wide, clean takeoff — maintained by the local flying club — that gives plenty of room for several wings to launch without crowding each other. Local pilots describe cross-country flying here as achievable without excessive risk, and evening sessions in particular are known for smooth, pleasant lift once the day's thermal activity settles down. Getting to launch means stopping at the FFVL information board on the road coming from Pratdebouc, then following the track to the end through the fields — watch for cattle both on the approach and around the takeoff itself. Summer thermals build strong here, and there's one hard rule everyone repeats: never land above the cliff to the left of takeoff, which is genuinely dangerous. The landing field is wide and workable, with a wind indicator on the barrier near its middle, but it has its own quirks — the far end can flood and the near end sits under tree-induced sink on the way in — so it's worth studying from launch before you commit, and worth sticking to rather than landing in a neighboring field.
