Streatley Common is a Thames Valley site — one of only a few hills in the region facing east to north-east, with a stunning view of Streatley and Goring below and the river Thames sparkling in the morning sunshine. The ridge is steep but tree-covered, and takeoff is from a small clearing. The launch is intimidating because of the surrounding trees and a power line just below launch that runs through the trees parallel to the ridge. Wind at takeoff is often deceptively light — dead air feeling on the ground with real breeze aloft.

Launch & conditions

Small clearing on a steep, tree-covered E to NE ridge. Very intimidating due to surrounding trees and a power line just below launch running through the trees parallel to the ridge. Wind at takeoff is often deceptively light — dead-air feeling on the ground with real breeze above.

Local rules & hazards

Watch the power line running just below launch through the trees parallel to the ridge — a real hazard. Wind at takeoff is often deceptively light while actually flyable above.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Streatley Common, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Streatley Common with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.

A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
