Vault Bay is a coastal club-managed site on the south coast of England — strict conditions apply. No vehicles may be parked on the roads or fields; unload your gear and use one of the National Trust car parks shown on the club plan (pay if you park there). Beware of turbulence from the trees and hedges in front of the west launch. All information is for guidance only — every pilot must make their own site assessment. The site is inside a Military Low Flying Area.

Launch & conditions

West launch: beware of turbulence from the trees and hedges in front of launch. Keep the landing area clear and the air in front of launch clear. Use common sense marshalling and consideration for others.

Getting there & local rules

Strictly NO vehicle parking on the roads or fields. Unload your gear and move your vehicle to one of the National Trust car parks shown on the site plan (pay if you park there). Landings: try to avoid landing outside the designated areas. Do NOT land in any field where livestock may be disturbed. Beware of rotor downwind of hedges and wind shear where fields slope away downwind. The beach can be narrow and often requires a crosswind landing — the carry up is long and steep.

Local rules & hazards

Site is in a Military Low Flying Area — call the military freephone before flying midweek, and check for Red Arrows/Royal Flights/TRAs before flying. Avoid all fields outside the site boundary except where indicated. Wind shear at the back of the landing area — keep speed on and aim to land near the brow.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Vault Bay, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Vault Bay with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.

A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
