Porzus

Porzus launches at 689 m in the Friuli hills near Attimis, in north-east Italy, a thermal, soaring and cross-country site reached via a short uneven road followed by a brief walk. Pilots drive into Porzus and continue about 1 km on an uneven road before parking and walking a further 200 m to the west to reach the launch, so a normal car manages the approach without needing a 4x4. The recorded wind range runs from south-east through south and south-west to west, giving a reasonably wide flyable window through a mountain afternoon, and the site's thermal and XC credentials make it a solid choice for pilots looking to cover distance rather than just soar the ridge. The main landing option is the sports/football field in Attimis down in the valley, with alternate landing spots available in the town's industrial area if the main field isn't workable on the day. Between the manageable drive-and-walk access and the broad wind window, Porzus is a practical thermal and XC launch for pilots based around Udine.
