Where it is

Hike & fly

Dreiländereck launches from 1,403 m at a small ski resort above Arnoldstein in southern Austria, reached by taking the Arnoldstein exit off the A2 motorway. The launch sits right in front of the resort's lift station and works for a wide spread of wind directions — north, northeast, east, west and northwest — giving pilots options as conditions shift through the day. Getting to launch is straightforward: ride the chairlift up, or hike roughly three hours and 800 vertical meters from the valley station if you would rather walk. The site also draws hikers in summer, so expect some foot traffic on the tracks near launch. Because it is a mixed hike-and-fly and resort-lift site, it suits pilots comfortable sharing a mountain with other visitors. As with any Alpine site, check current lift operating times and access rules before you go, since hours and fees change with the season.

Launch & conditions

Launch sits directly in front of the resort's lift station, facing N/NE/E/W/NW — flyable through a wide range of wind directions.

Getting there & local rules

Take the Arnoldstein exit from the A2 motorway (Austrian vignette required) and follow the signs to Dreiländereck; from the valley station you can ride the chairlift or hike up in about three hours.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Dreiländereck, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Dreiländereck with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
