Where it is

Gschwandtkopf is a small flying area and training slope in the hills southwest of Seefeld, Tyrol, launching from 1,412 m with the meadow takeoff sitting right at the top of a ski lift. Don't let the modest scale fool you: the terrain around both the launch and the landing is demanding, scattered with obstacles that call for real local awareness rather than a first-time approach. Neither the launch nor the landing has a windsock, so pilots have to read the wind from terrain and other cues alone — a skill worth having solid before flying here. The landing field sits right next to the valley station, which keeps the walk-out short, but it also shares ground with a children's ski lift that has a track record of being hazardous, so landing pattern awareness near the lift matters as much as the approach itself. Wind from the north is what the site is set up for; anything else is better left for another day and another hill.

Launch & conditions

The meadow launch sits at the top of the lift; there's no windsock here, so reading conditions relies on judgment rather than an instrument.

Getting there & local rules

The landing field is right next to the valley station, but shares the area with a children's lift known to be hazardous — give it a wide, deliberate berth on approach.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Gschwandtkopf, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Gschwandtkopf with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
