Where it is
Flinders is a popular coastal ridge site 75 km south of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula — a versatile venue for both paragliders and hang gliders, with a ground ramp above the golf course, easy recovery steps, and safe beach landings. Advanced pilots can trip up the coast about 1.6 km to Blow Hole Point. Summer often produces buoyant bubbles of air lifting off exposed rock areas on the beach — pilots with varios have spent happy hours floating around 700 ft above launch riding them, while pilots without varios cycle between one and two hundred feet.

Getting there & local rules
75 km south of Melbourne. Flinders township, east coast. Melways 260 J10; approximately 145°0.7'E, 38°28.8'S.
Local rules & hazards
Do NOT fly in SW wind — turbulence in the corner has nearly claimed some very experienced pilots. The site is periodically at risk of being lost due to landings on top and driving the wrong way down the one-way road. Beach landings are easy and safe — use them to keep the golfers happy. The Flinders Bowl (golf course area) has specific site rules — respect them.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Flinders, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Flinders with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.

Flyable days by month
A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
