Alp Stein

Alp Stein sits at around 2,160 metres and is flyable from the southeast, southwest or west, giving it more flexibility than many single-direction Swiss launches. Access is by gondola from Wali, which keeps the approach straightforward for a site at this altitude. Two things are worth checking every time before flying: Switzerland's airspace rules, which are genuinely more complex than they look at first glance, and the current list of active danger areas, which can appear or change with little notice. Föhn conditions are also a real factor here — when a föhn situation develops, expect strong and gusty wind that can turn a promising forecast unreliable fast. With three workable wind directions and gondola access, Alp Stein offers more usable days than a narrower site, but the föhn risk and Switzerland's layered airspace mean it rewards pilots who check conditions properly rather than trusting a quick glance at the sky.
